Michael Kenna
After looking through some of Michael Kenna's work, I got a somber feeling from most of them. Most that I saw were of different environments either up close like the Eiffel tower image of his or more pulled back like this one. He seems to use a lot of the techniques that we learned in class, he seems to use the grid a lot, lining trees and other objects with the lines of the ride. He hs some almost symmetric images that are very satisfying to look at.
But one of my favorites of his would-be this cityscape one I have above. I really enjoy how he didn't put the land exactly in the middle, but has it up so that there is more of the dark water holding the photo space. The cityscape has an almost symmetric feel to it yet not being exactly symmetric. I also enjoy the almost light halo he was able to capture that creates a dome shape around the city.
He seems to use a lot of these little details in his work. Making them very enjoyable to look at.
