Antonin Kratochvil
Antoni Kratochvi gives photography a new way to look at the world. He seems to not follow many of the normal "rules" that are taught and used throughout many other famous and well-known photographers. After looking at many of his photos, you start to realize that most of the subject matter is out of focus. Though he seems to make it work without one main focused subject in his photos.
He uses a good balance in the light and dark aspects when he shoots images. There is a similar amount of both, even if one side has more light then the other.
I found that I personally like this style, it leaves the meaning of the photo up to the viewer. I asked a few close friends about what they felt and they almost all had different ideas of what the main idea was. One mentioned the fact of the girl behind the glass as being protected by the soldiers, while another took it as she was being held by them. Two completely different takes on this photo.
For me, I take it as war being shown as evil, they are the dark aspect in the picture where the innocent girl is in the spot with the most light to it. It portrays that with light there will be dark, there will be soldiers needed to help protect those who can not fight, yet without one they other would not be.
That is what I like most about his pieces, they all can be interpreted in many powerful ways. Yet anyway, someone reads the subject, it seems to bring personal opinion into it so that everyone can relate to the images in some way.
